International Cooperation & Partnership Activities and Their Outcomes

Through technology exchanges with research & other institutes in various countries as well as offshore research activities, which relate to construction projects and technology, we promote establishment of an international network on construction engineering.

We will actively expand and enhance such activities continuously. The activities include yearly Joint Seminar on Construction Engineering conducted with Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT) and a mutual cooperation that is based on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which promotes Integrated Flood Management. Additionally, we report outcomes of the activities through mediums including this website and endeavor to provide information that can contribute to assessment of Japan's housing and social capital improvement for the future.

Technology Exchanges with Korea Institute of Construction Technology

In order to promote exchanges on construction engineering between Korea and Japan, foster technological development, and contribute to the bilateral friendship and goodwill, we engage in technology exchanges with Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT). KICT and JICE share a same goal to make contributions in social capital improvement through research studies and diffusion of construction technology.

Mutual Cooperation with World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

In coordination and cooperation withWorld Meteorological Organization (WMO), which is a specialized agency of United Nations, we conduct research studies on flood management ]related scientific knowledge and technology under aMemorandum of Understanding concluded between the two organizations in 2007. The research studies focus on not only technological issues in flood management but also multiple disciplines closely related to flood management such as legal institutions, environment, social aspect and economy. These research subjects are also important issues in Integrated Flood Management (IFM)#1 and the outcomes of the studies have been developed into several publications. IFM is advocated by Associated Programme on Flood Management (APFM), which is established by WMO with a view to exploring flood management issues.

We have been assisting in the development of the publications. We are also preparing Japanese translations of these publications consecutively to introduce the IFM concept to Japan.
